DUFUR, Ore. - Pomeroy opened its trip into 8-man ball with a decisive 56-0 win against Butte Falls here Saturday.

"It was a good game to open up with," said Pomeroy coach Scott McGee. "It was our first 8-man game, I think we came down prepared and were able to get it going right away. Everyone got to play and it was a good day."

Quarterback Mack Wolf kept the game - mostly on the ground - moving. Wolf picked up a 72-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown and threw a 19-yard touchdown to Tory Knebel. It was the only passing touchdown on the day.

"The team today was run-oriented, and we were good enough to shut them out," McGee said. "It was a ground-pounding affair today."

Pomeroy opened up scoring with 22 points in the first, when Austin Reisdorph made a 22-yard run, followed with a two-point run.

Up 8-0, the Pirates never looked back.

Wolf's 72-yard fumble return put them up 16-0 after the two-point conversion, and Reisdorph's next 14 yard run closed out the first quarter scoring, 22-0, after the run failed.

The Pirates didn't let up in the second frame. Wolf threw a 19-yard pass to Tory Knebel for 28-0 after the failed two-point conversion, then Reisdorph ran 85 yards for another six points. A Wolf to Matt Fitgerald two-point conversion moved it to 36-0. Knebel's 53-yard TD closed out the half with the Pirates up, 42-0.

The second half of the game was quieter, as Jacob Moore put up six on a 45-yard touchdown in the third, and Knebel's 75-yard TD with a two-point conversion throw from Wolf to John Atchley in the fourth closed out scoring.

"A score like that will always help moral, but coming up against who we've got next in Tri-Cities Prep, the kids are going to have to know a completely different style of football," McGee said.

With a 1-0 nonconference record, McGee wants his Pirates ready for the Jaguars this weekend where McGee expects Tri-Cities Prep to pass more.

"They'll probably be a lot better football team," he said. "It's going to be a whole different game come Friday than what we just went through."
