WALLA WALLA -- Police detectives are continuing to investigate an armed robbery at the Ninth Avenue branch of Banner Bank on Saturday afternoon.

The holdup at 600 S. Ninth Ave. was reported at 4:50 p.m. after a lone gunman entered the branch with what appeared to be a large, black, semiautomatic handgun and demanded cash, according to a news release.

The man reportedly jumped up on the counter and pointed the gun at the tellers. He is described as a white male, short hair, unknown age and was wearing a black cowboy hat; short-sleeved, button-up dark shirt; white and black athletic shoes and had his face covered with a dark-colored bandana.

A teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of money and he fled, police said.

No one was hurt and no shots were fired.

Detectives recovered an abandoned bicycle a short distance away that may have been ridden by the robber to and from the scene. Witnesses saw a man matching the robber's description riding the bicycle in the area. It is being processed for evidence. The bike is a Diamond Back, Sorrento model, women's-style red mountain bike.

Agents from the FBI responded to the scene and assisted in the initial investigation.

Detectives are asking for help in identifying the rider of the bicycle. Witnesses are asked to call detectives at 527-4434.
