Rio Hubbard Buckner, passed away on July, 30, 2010, she was born on April 22, 1941, in Farmington, WA. To Robert & Charlotte Hubbard. Rio sustained a head injury at the age of 3, which resulted in epilepsy. She lived with her parents until she was 17 years old and went to live at Lakeland Village. In 1978 she moved to Stone Creek Lodge in Walla Walla where she met William Buckner. In August 1981, her and Bill were married and moved to their own apartment. They lived independently with the support of Valley Residential Services. Bill died in 1990 of a heart attack. Since then Rio has moved several times. She always looked forward to her next move and to new experiences. This last move will be the best one yet; Heaven will be full of great adventures!

Rio was a very active person in her community, and well known by others. She loved going to church and attending the Assembly of God Bethel Church for many years, she would attend twice on Sunday and every Wednesday evening. She never liked to miss services. She would always have to ask her Pastor for permission for her to miss church. Rio went to the Senior Center every Tuesday night for music where she enjoyed listening to the Fiddlers. Rio also participated on a lot of activities through Valley Residential Services where she could visit with her friends and make art & crafts. She loved to go out with her support staff, whether it was to go shopping, get a manicure, or just out for a cup of coffee. She made friends everywhere she went.

Rio loved to sit at her front window, drink coffee and wave at her neighbors or passers-by. She loved making friends with her neighbors. Rio took many trips including LA, San Diego, Ensenada Mexico, a cruise to Catalina Islands, a trip to Texas to see her sister, a tropical vacation to Hawaii, and a lifelong dream trip to the Price is Right and SeaWorld. She enjoyed short trips to the Oregon Coast and to Tri-Cities for shopping.

There were special people that she enjoyed spending time with. Eloise was her dinner-out companion; and Tina was her shopping buddy; AJ, Heidi & Lisa were her favorite support staff (who traveled all the way to Seattle to be with her in the end). She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Charlotte Hubbard, and her husband Bill Buckner. She is remembered by her brother, Robert Creigh of Arizona; her sisters, Rhio Heigh Lilley of Texas; her sister and brother-in-law Helen & Norman Butel of Pasco, WA; by her church family at Assembly of God Bethel; and by all her support staff at Valley Residential Services. We will truly miss her!

Services will be held Thursday, September 9th at Assembly of God Bethel, 342 S. Wilbur, at 3pm. Potluck will follow at the church.
