WALLA WALLA -- The pending execution of Cal Brown will close a portion of State Route 125 leading past Washington State Penitentiary on Thursday night.
The highway will be closed between its intersections with Harvey Shaw Road and Carrie Avenue starting at 10 a.m. The diversion is expected to extend through the early morning hours Friday, said Walla Walla County Sheriff Michael Humphreys.
Northbound vehicles from Walla Walla will be diverted at Carrie Avenue. Southbound traffic on the highway and on Harvey Shaw Road will be stopped at the intersection of State Route 125 and Harvey Shaw and diverted to other routes.
Humphreys said motorists traveling north should use the Lower Waitsburg Road and then use either the Russell Siding Road or Valley Grove Road to return to State Route 125 or Harvey Shaw Road.
Detour signs will be in place for southbound traffic on State Route 125 at Valley Grove Road and Russell Siding Road.
