UMATILLA - Mac-Hi's volleyball team lost in five sets to Umatilla Tuesday.
The Pioneers (25-23, 17-25, 18-25, 25-19, 10-15) won two sets but couldn't close out the final for the game win.
"The girls didn't win, but I could not be more proud of the way they played last night," said Mac-Hi coach Kaila Rodighiero. "They battled their hearts out and they were sweating with dignity."
The Pioneers had 17 aces on the match. Avery Wells led with 7 and Meghan Kimball had three.
Wells and Jolene Brannan had five kills each. The team was 72 of 84 in serves and 57-72 in hits.
"They had some rallies that lasted longer than any rallies I've seen," Rodighiero said. "They never gave up and they earned their points. I think they are believing more in themselves and finally experiencing what they are capable of."
Mac-Hi plays in a tournament at Riverside this weekend.
"I expect good things this Saturday," Rodighiero said.
