Man arrested in Walla Walla stabbing

WALLA WALLA -- An arrest has been made in the stabbing of a 19-year-old man this week during a fight in an alley near Eighth Avenue and West Poplar Street.

Jessee A. Guerra, 27, who has no permanent address, was taken into custody Thursday morning without incident at a local RV park, according to Walla Walla police spokesman Tim Bennett.

Guerra was booked into the County Jail on investigation of first-degree assault after being interviewed at the police station.

Police believe Guerra stabbed Rozas Alaniz Jr. once in the chest during the altercation between the men shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday. In conducting their investigation, police spoke with several people who were in the area.

Alaniz was hospitalized at Providence St. Mary Medical, but since has been discharged.

No other injuries requiring medical treatment were reported. A knife and a metal pipe that may have been used in the fight were located near the scene and are being held as evidence.

The cause of the altercation hasn't been determined, according to Bennett.

"They knew each other from before, but we don't know what the situation was that created this," he said.
