Marian Drahos was born on Aug. 25, 1924, the daughter of Herman Edward and Katherine Tyler in Pierce County, N.D. She was one of nine children. Upon graduation from high school she led a life of travel and adventure. She worked in Michigan, California, the South Pacific on a Norwegian Merchant Marine vessel, to a gold mine and a cannery in Alaska, but occasionally returned home to North Dakota to assist her parents on the farm. While in Alaska she met her future husband, Kenneth Drahos, who worked for the U.S. Forest Service. She referred to him as "My Kenny." They were married in California and return to Alaska. During their 62 years of marriage they raised five children. She had many adventures and life experiences but she viewed her greatest adventure as her walk with the Lord.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Drahos; five children, Gaynel "Gay" Troyer of Milton-Freewater, Bruce Drahos of Camden, N.C., Janet Faure of Juneau, Alaska, Ruth Drahos of Daleville, Ala., and Kimberly Divis of Fayetteville, Ark.; siblings, June Petteys of Shoreline, Wash., Dean Arnold of Springfield, Mo.i, and Lynn Guse of Gainsville, Wis.; nine grandchild and five great-grandchildren. We will miss you Mom, "Forever and a day."
