YAKIMA - Weston-McEwen volleyball continued its stong start with a trio of victories in Yakima on Friday to run its mark to 7-1 in non-league play.
After a challenging start to the day that saw the TigerScots drop two of its three pool play matches before running the table in the Third Team Bracket at the tourney.
Weston-MeEwen defeated Ceton Catholic 25-18, 25-23, White Salmon 23-25, 25-23, 15-7 and Mabton 25-10, 25-11 during its perfect after pool play afternoon.
"It's always great to be able to get out there and play," said Weston-McEwen head coach Shawn White. "It was a good day, and we got some good ball in. These girls really want to get out here and play."
Overall, the TigerScots were led by 42 assists and 18 kills from Morgan Entze, 44 assists from Jordan Reger and 30 kills from Tiffany Cain. Weston McEwen also got 26 kills from Renees Baumann, who added a team high 19 aces.
Katy West chipped in with seven kills, and Jaymie Zimmerman had eight aces.
"Jaymie's defense was something that really sparked us," White said. "Our defense overall was key."
Haley Freske notched 13 kills for th TigerScots, while LeAnne Harnden tallied 25 digs in Yakima.
Up next for Weston-McEwen is a Thursday match against Imbler.
"This was a good tourney for us and a good chance to learn," White said. "This was a good character building day for us and a chance for us to show our competitiveness. Overall, I'm very pleased."
