Deborah Jean Ferris passed away on Sept. 9, 2010, at Walla Walla General Hospital after suffering a debilitating heart attack on Aug. 30. She was 59 years old.
Debbie was born on Sept. 5, 1951, to Kenneth and Marilyn Rinehart in Centerville, Iowa. She attended schools in Iowa, Washington and Pendleton, Ore. She married Jay Scott of Pendleton in 1968. They had a son, Glenn. They later divorced. On July 13, 1973, Debbie married Elias Ferris and they made their home for the next 37 years in Walla Walla. Debbie was
a homemaker, raising their four children, and a caregiver to their grandchildren, especially Ruban, Rico, Raiden and Ryan Cavazos. Debbie loved her family and was very devoted as a mother and grandmother. She worked for several years as a personal caregiver. She was one of the founding members of the Vineyard Free Methodist Church, where she served on the board of stewards. Debbie had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and was devoted to praying for others.
She is survived by her husband at home; her sons, Glenn Scott and Christopher Ferris of Walla Walla, Michael Ferris of Ephraim, Utah; one daughter, Amera Ferris Cavazos of Walla Walla; 14 grandchildren; her brother, Ken Rinehart of Iowa; a niece, Jaime Mauldin of Centerville and nephew, Jason Rinehart of San Diego. She was preceded by her parents and a sister-in-law, Kathy Rinehart.
The funeral service will be held at the Vineyard Free Methodist Church, 343 S. 3rd Ave, on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel J. Willms officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the church. Viewing and visitation will be held at the Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, from 4-8 p.m. The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Walla Walla General Hospital Foundation through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W.
