LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Turner would make outstanding sheriff

I am a retired special agent of the FBI. During my 27-year career as a federal law enforcement officer, I investigated many and varied federal and local violations. As such, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of federal and local police officers in many different settings and endeavors.

I am proud and fortunate at the same time to have worked with someone of John Turner's caliber. For two years I had the distinct good fortune of working with Mr. Turner during an assignment in Iraq investigating criminal terrorist organizations involved in the killing of our soldiers using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the number-one killer of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

During our association, I have come to know the vast capabilities he possesses. He is a quick read on tactical situations to include the knowledge and techniques used to gather physical and forensic evidence. He was especially gifted in deciphering military and legal guidelines and then efficiently applying them to foster an effective working relationship with our Iraqi counterparts by integrating our needs with Iraqi laws and customs.

I'm sure that much of this success was due to his LAPD career and his experience as an attorney whose sole practice was the representation of law enforcement. Mr. Turner's character, organizational skills and professionalism are second to none. He epitomizes the values of truth and justice.

John is truly an American patriot and someone who is held in high regard by his friends, colleagues and associates. I know he will make an outstanding sheriff. His enthusiasm, integrity, values and knowledge of the law and law enforcement will serve him well as the new sheriff of Walla Walla.

I wholeheartedly recommend John Turner and encourage you to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for your community.
