Mac-Hi boys participate in Runner's Soul XC Fest

HERMISTON - Mac-Hi cross country runners were among those that participated in the Brooks Runner's Soul XC Fest at Sandstone Middle School here Saturday.

Lucas Simpson led the Pioneer boys with a 23rd-place finish in 18:01.32.

Hermiston's Eduardo Juarez won the boys' sid in 16:16.86.

Mac-Hi's John Lonai was 34th in 18:26.89, Kaleb Taylor was 41st in 18:49.66, Ethan Taylor was 63rd in 20:10.60, David Camarena was 76th in 21:52.94, Wil Hadden was 79th in 22:16.40 and Jess Sargent was 80th in 22:45.51.

Waitsburg-Prescott's Seth Deal led local runners with a seventh-place finish in 17:08.54. Teammate Nick Carpenter was 38th in 18:41.93, and W-P's Matthew Montgomery was 55th in 19:38.45.

Weston-McEwen's Jacob Christopher was 52nd in 19:21.42, and Daniel Winn was 71st in 21:02.54.

As a team, the Mac-Hi boys were ninth with 224 points.

"It was a letdown meet for us," Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. "We were hoping to do better on the flat course."

On the girls side, Waitsburg-Prescott's Isabela Benito led local runners with a 12th-place finish in 22:06.58.

Hanford's Erin Hegarty won the event in 18:30.64.

Mac-Hi's Kathleen Hopkins was 54th in 26:14.58.
