RIVERSIDE -- Mac-Hi easily handled Riverside in a girl's soccer match here Monday.
The Pioneers (2-0-1) trounced the Pirates 7-0 in the nonleague game.
"We controlled through most of the game," said head coach Martin Martinez.
Shawny Garcia and Kariss Carrillo scored twice, and Emily Childers, Belen Betancourt and Erika Torres scores once each.
"Everything we worked on this weekend, we perfected yesterday against Riverside," Martinez said. "We were holding tempo, controlling the outcome and communicating."
Most of the work at front was controlled by Betencourt or Childers, he said. Forward Mica Epifanio was injured and out in the first 10 minutes.
"Kariss (Carillo) took her spot at front and came through for us," he said. "We dominated the game."
Riverside was in the same league as Mac-Hi but moved at the end of last season.
The Pioneers are off for a week, then host Riverside Sept. 21 before opening league play at Baker Sept. 25.
"We're practicing pretty hard so we can get focused," Martinez said. "With a week between games they can lose focus and slow down, so we'll work hard."
