WAITSBURG -- An early-morning standoff in which a man allegedly threatened a woman with a gun ended peacefully today.
Keith E. Adams, 23, was arrested at 5 a.m. after voluntarily surrendering to Emergency Services Unit officers, said Walla Walla County Sheriff Mike Humphreys.
According to Humphreys and documents presented in court today, deputies were called to 360 Preston Ave. about 1:15 a.m. for a domestic dispute. While en route, deputies were told a witness had seen Preston hold a small semiautomatic pistol to the head of a woman, identified as Melissa Sharpe, 21.
Upon arrival deputies were told that Adams was extremely agitated and intoxicated and was holding Sharpe and two children, an infant and a 2-year old, in the residence against their will. The ESU team, which consists of sheriff's deputies and Walla Walla Police officers, were called and after surrounding the residence were able to contact Adams, who shortly afterward released Sharpe, but remained in the residence with the two children.
After more than three hours, Adams gave up and police recovered a small-caliber pistol at the scene. According to Humphreys and court documents, Adams and Sharpe had a relationship and the woman told deputies he had pointed the firearm at her.
Adams was booked into County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault, three counts of unlawful imprisonment and felony harassment. Bail was set at $50,000 today, according to court documents.
