Pat and Marie Martin of Milton-Freewater recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in with a reception in Pendleton hosted by their children.
The couple met in high school and married Aug. 14, 1960, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Milton-Freewater. Marie's maiden name is Freeze.
Pat earned bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Eastern Oregon State College. He was a principal at the elementary and middle school levels for five years, a principal-superintendent at the elementary and high school levels for six years and superintendent of schools for 18 years. He retired in 1992. He enjoys travel, golf and hunting. He has been a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for 45 years and is a member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
Marie worked 19 years as a secretary, office worker, in banking and as a stock broker. She also worked for a District Court and Department of Motor Vehicles. She also managed a dental office for nine years. She retired in 1991. She enjoys crafts, golfing and travelling. She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Rebekah Lodge and is a deacon in the Presbyterian Church.
The Martins have a daughter, Michelle Fox of Athena; son Brad Martin of Kent, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
