UNION, Ore. - Mac-Hi and Weston-McEwen cross country runners competed at the Catherine Creek Scamper here Friday.
The Mac-Hi boys finished fifth overall of nine teams. Lucas Simpson took ninth overall in an individual time of 20:54.
Mac-Hi's Emily Childers was second overall in the girls race, with a time of 25:04. Kathleen Hopkins finished 20th with a time of 28:56.
W-M didn't have enough runners in boys or girls to field a full team. W-M runners Jacob Christopher and Daniel Winn competed in the 3.2 mile race.
Christopher finished 6th in 20:32 and Winn finished at 23:06.
On the girls' side, Danielle Henchcliffe, Melissa Husky and Lizzy Husky "all had good showings," said Weston-McEwen coach Paul Scott. The course included a 50-foot mudhole, he said.
"It was a tough course, lots of curves and ups and downs," Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said.
Weston-McEwen's Christopher will compete in the Nike Pre-Nationals at Portland Meadows Sept. 25.
"He will do very well," Scott said. "He has trained hard and will make an impressive showing."
Mac-Hi next races Friday at the Hells Canyon Invitational in Lewiston.
