Whitman men run to sixth at Sundodger

SEATTLE - Sophomore Cory Rand was 31st and senior Sam Hennessey 36th to pace Whitman College to a sixth-place showing in a field of 17 schools in the men's 8,000-meter open race at the Sundodger Invitational here Saturday morning at Lincoln Park.

St. Martin's Kyle Van Santen won the race, which attracted nearly 200 runners, in 24:47.48.

Rounding out Whitman's team score (top five) were freshman Spencer Corwin in 50th, senior Daniel Luecke in 53rd and sophomore Taylor Mesojednik in 75th.

Whitman was sixth in the team scoring with 192 place points for its top five, finishing just six points behind fifth-place St. Martin's.

Whitworth was first in the team scoring with 47 points, edging British Columbia by nine points. Lewis & Clark was third with 101 points. lt;/p>

Along with Whitman, Whitworth and Lewis & Clark, Puget Sound represented the Northwest Conference, placing 10th with 276 points.
