PASCO - Whitman senior Brian Barton birdied seven holes, finishing 5-under par 67, as Whitman College dropped a close dual golf match decision to North Idaho College Saturday afternoon at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Barton, a graduate of Pasco High School, outshot his nearest North Idaho competitor by five shots.

Barton's round, his best as a collegian, was marred only by a double-bogey on one hole.

North Idaho edged Whitman in the team scoring by a 295 to 301 margin.

Next in line on Whitman's score sheet were freshman Andrew Welch 76, sophomore Geoff Burks 78, and freshman Jon Standen 80.

Also playing for Whitman were senior Max Rausch and sophomore Eli Smith, who both shot 84, and junior David DeVine, who carded a 93.
