DAYTON - Dayton volleyball pulled out a nail-biter, five-set win over Walla Walla Academy Wednesday at home to even both team's record at 2-2 in league play.
The match came down to an intense final frame before Dayton scored the victory 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 11-25, 16-14.
"It was a great game," said WWA head coach Scott Schafer. "Both teams played well, and there were great rallies. It came down to the fifth game, which has been how our season has been."
Dayton was led by seven kills and 19 assists from Kayla Turner, eight kills and 13 digs from Michaela Bickelhaupt and 27 digs with a pair of aces from Nicole Lambert. Sarah Mascal added seven kills and a 15-for-15 service night and Amanda Melton posted five kills.
"This was an exciting match," said Dayton head coach Shannon Turner. "We did a lot of good things and kept our composure. We wanted to focus on not making errors and we did that."
WWA was paced by 13 kills by both Kelsie Schafer and Bri Leen. Leen also notched six blocks, and Brooklyn Larson added nine assists.
Dayton next takes the floor on Saturday in a tournament in Pomeroy, while WWA plays again tonight against Liberty Christian.
