Richard and Betty Gradwohl


Richard and Betty Gradwohl of Walla Walla celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family at Fort Stevens, Ore., during the first week of August. They then spent their anniversary week in September at Crater Lake National Park.

The couple met while students at Walla Walla High School. They married Sept. 10, 1960, at Central Christian Church in Walla Walla. Betty's maiden name is Faust.

Richard was in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve for 29 years. He was a personnel manager for 10 years with General Foods Corp. and a personnel specialist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 25 years. He retired in 2001. He enjoys hunting, fishing, coin collecting and travel with his family.

Betty was a teacher. She retired in 2001 from Blue Ridge Elementary School after 10 years as a para-professional.

They have four sons, Michael of Burbank, Jim and Mark of Spokane Valley, Wash., and Jon of Waitsburg. They have four grandchildren, Rachel, Kyle, Carissa and Megan.
