FINLEY - It came down to the kicking game for River View and Burbank on Friday night in a narrowly contested game that was decided by a single extra point. Senior kicker Diego Mendoza knocked home the game-clinching tally to give River View a 20-19 win over Burbank in SCAC 1A play after a one-yard run from Austin Weatherby knotted the score with time slipping away.
Diego Mendoza's brother Alfonso Espinosa kicked the other critical extra point for River View after a 20-yard pass to Justin Grow in the first quarter, but he sprained his ankle after River View's second touchdown on a failed point-after-attempt, which called his brother into duty for the final point of the game.
Burbank was led by 60 yards on the ground from Forest Gordon, including a 25-yard touchdown in the first quarter, and two touchdown passes from Heath Lawrence.
