Waitsburg-Prescott runners finish first in division at Connell Invitational

CONNELL, Wash. - The Waitsburg-Prescott boys cross-country team finished first in its 1B division at the Connell Invitational Saturday and placed 12 out of 23 teams overall.

W-P only had two girls enter and wasn't able to field a team.

Isabel Benito finished 22nd in 21:59.7.

Seth Deal ran the 3.1 mile in 16:31, good for seventh out of 170 boys.

"Seth keeps improving and improving," W-P coach Joanna Lanning, "This week was a longer race and it was hot but he still ran faster."

Nick Carpenter finished in 17:21 for 22nd.

"The boys ran real well as a team," Lanning said, "We beat some schools in our conference that were there. That was good to see.

"Our team keeps working harder and harder. We've been real dedicated especially for this early in the season."
