MILTON-FREEWATER - Two goals, centered first off corner kicks, led Mac-Hi to a 2-0 win over Baker in Greater Oregon League soccer action Saturday.
Both scoring kicks were booted by Belen Betancourt from near the front of the goal and the girls fought hard for the points, said Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez.
Makia Carlson scored for the Pioneers in the first half and Veronica Garcia scored in the second half.
"Both corner kicks were bouncing around," said Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez. "And our two girls put a good kick on them to score."
The Pioneers took 16 shots on goal to Baker's two.
Midfielder Emily Childers led with six shots on goal. Betancourt had five.
"We got the win, 2-0," Martinez said. "I just felt like there was something missing. In the first half, we were not passing and communicating. In the second half, we were moving the ball around left-to-right but we just couldn't find the net very often. We won, but there is room for improvement."
The Pioneers are 4-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in league.
Mac-Hi plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday at home.
