Trial date set for man in Waitsburg standoff

Keith E. Adams faces five felony charges in connection with the Sept. 17 incident.

WALLA WALLA -- A man who allegedly held a woman and her two young children against their will at his Waitsburg residence this month pleaded innocent Monday afternoon to five felony charges.

Keith E. Adams, 23, of 360 Preston Ave., is set for trial Nov. 1 and 2 in Walla Walla County Superior Court on one count each of first-degree assault and harassment, and three counts of unlawful imprisonment.

County sheriff's deputies responded to the residence about 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 17 regarding a domestic dispute at which Adams allegedly was armed with a small semiautomatic pistol. He reportedly was extremely agitated, intoxicated and allegedly had been pointing the weapon at the woman, 21-year-old Melissa Sharpe.

After the area's Emergency Services Unit arrived, negotiators made contact with Adams and he allowed Sharpe to leave, according to a Sheriff's Office report filed in court.

But the children -- an infant and a 2-year-old -- remained in the residence during a three-hour standoff until Adams surrendered to officers about 5 a.m., authorities said.

A pistol reportedly was recovered at the scene. There were no injuries.

Adams was arrested and booked into the County Jail.
