DAYTON - It took four sets, and recovery from a first-set loss, but DeSales topped Dayton in Southeast Class 2B volleyball Tuesday.

The Irish lost the first set, 25-18, but came back to win 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23.

"For us to recover from that first-game loss and finish the next three with wins is big," said DeSales coach Lori Blanc. "Mentally, this was a huge hurdle they just got over."

Abby Larreau and Stephanie Ferrel led the Irish with 11 kills. Annie Higgins had six kills, Chantel Blanc had 13 assists and was 15-of-15 from the serving line. Ferrel was also 100 percent serving. Alex Buley and Larreau had four blocks each and Megan Moberg had two.

The win moves the Irish to 2-3 overall, and drops the Bulldogs to 2-3 overall.

"It was a good match with close games," said Dayton coach Shannon Turner. "The difference was us giving up too many points on unforced errors in the third and fourth sets."

Dayton's McKayla Bickelhaupt led the Bulldogs with 15 kills and was 12-for-12 serving. Kayla Turner had 13 kills and 15 assists, Shelby Smith had eight kills, two blocks and went 17-for-17 from the serving line. Nicole Lambert had 25 digs, Sarah Mascall had five kills and Amanda Milton had six kills and one block. Darci Hall added 15 assists for the Bulldogs.

"Nicole Lambert helped us in the back court all night," Turner said. "She played really well. And junior Darci Hall stepped up to the plate in new positions all around the court. She set the ball well and showed good sense."

The Irish play at Walla Walla Valley Academy Thursday, and Dayton hosts Tri-Cities Prep.
