Waitsburg-Prescott tops SE2B District 9 track meet


COLFAX - Waitsburg-Prescott's boys and girls topped a five-team Southeast 2B District 9 track meet here Wednesday.

The W-P boys score of 122.83 had little competition from Garfield-Palouse/Colton, which totaled 67.33. DeSales was third at 54, Pomeroy fourth at 45.25 and Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia fifth at 36.58.

On the girls side, W-P put up 85.5 points, T-O-R was second at 69, DeSales third with 62, Pomeroy fourth at 50 and G-P/C fifth with 42.5.

"It was miserable weather," DeSales coach Mike Michels said of the meet. "But we survived and it showed how tough track kids are. Just surviving (not getting injured) showed something."

Local first-place finishers for the boys included W-P's Brian Done, who was first in the 400 meters in 1:01.40; W-P's Seth Deal, first in the 1,600 meters in 5:03.10, as well as the 3,200 meters in 10:44.70; W-P's Eshom Estes, first in the shot put at 40 feet, 7 inches, the discus at 133-feet, and the javelin at 133-7; DeSales' Nick Wales, who tied for first in the high jump at 5-6 with G-P/C's Chad Redman; and Pomeroy's Mitch Ruchert, who was first in the long jump at 15-5 and the triple jump at 34-10.

For the girls, W-P's Kristin Potter was first in the 100 in 12.9 and the 200 in 27.5; DeSales' Jessica Arnzen, first in the 800 in 2:46.0; W-P's Isabela Benito, first in the 3,200 meters in 14:54.80; W-P's Ronnie Hulce, first in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.80 and 300 hurdles in 51.90; W-P's Kayla Huxoll first in the shot put at 27-5.25; Pomeroy's Maddie Grimm, first in the javelin in 102-6; and DeSales' Allison Wujek, who was first in the high jump in 5-feet and the long jump in 13-8.5.

W-P's boys 1,600-meter relay of Done, Logan Dozier, Jared Morris and Justin Armstrong recorded a 4:01.80, which edged DeSales' team of Jeremiah Cox, Wales, Jean-Emile Leconte and Peter Vander Griend, who finished in 4:04.90.

W-P's girls 400-meter relay of Hulce, Huxoll, Potter and Krystal Harris won in 54.70.

Pomeroy's girls 800 relay of Kindsey Bott, Sara LaPape, Brielle Hocking and Kelsey Collins finished in 2:02.23, to beat DeSales' Arnzen, Brigit Lyons, Jade Donnelly and Wujek at 2:04.20.
