Mac-Hi continues softball dominance

MILTON-FREEWATER - The Mac-Hi girls softball team continued its dominance of the preseason schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Molalla, 5-0 and 3-1, here Saturday.

Cheyenne Kessler was the swinging star with a grand slam in the first inning of the opener. The bases were loaded for Kessler after two Molalla errors and a walk.

"Chey set the tone for the game and the doubleheader with the early grand slam," Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. "Then we played defense behind our pitcher, Kaitlin Erm, and won game one."

Erm pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two walk and three hits. Erm also had nine strikeouts.

Mac-Hi scratched out three runs on two hits in game two to pick up the victory.

"We hit the ball harder in game two then game one, but we just couldn't find any holes when we made contact," Christian said.

To scrape out Mac-Hi's first run, Kessler walked. Odman reached on an error and Kessler moved to third on the play.

Then Kessler scored on a passed ball.

Four walks forced in a second run in the fourth inning for Mac-Hi.

Kariss Carrillo got the RBI-walk with the bases loaded.

After the walks, two Pioneer strikeouts ended the inning.

The third and final Mac-Hi run was on Kalyn Odman's RBI single scoring Shawney Garcia.

Garcia had reached on an error and moved up to second base on sacrifice fly by Harrington.

Garcia pitched a complete game, giving up the one run and allowing just three hits in the circle for Mac-Hi.

The Lady Pioneers are now 10-1 on the season.

Mac-Hi opens up league play in the Greater Oregon Conference Friday at Baker in a twinbill, starting at 2 p.m.
