POMEROY -- A Pomeroy man was listed in fair condition this morning at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center after a crash Saturday.

Klay D. Maxwell, 26, was a passenger in a 2005 Ford Focus that crossed the center line and collided with a 2008 Honda Accord driven by Jack D. Mittendorf, 63, of Clarkston at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday. The collision occurred on U.S. Highway 12 six miles east of Pomeroy.

Driver of the Focus was Daniel J. Strand, 30, of Pomeroy. According to a Washington State Patrol report, Strand was westbound on U.S. 12 when he lost control and swerved into the eastbound lane, striking the Accord head-on. Strand was cited for driving too fast for conditions and being over the center line.

Strand, Mittendorf and their passengers were transported to the Lewiston hospital, where all but Maxwell were treated and released. Passengers in Strand's vehicle included Maxwell, Maria Meyers, 15, Pomeroy, and Victoria E. TraceSullivan, 15. Passenger in Mittendorf's vehicle was Sharon J. Mittendorf, 65, of Clarkston.

All vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts, the Washington State Patrol said.
