Donald Weis, 79, of Vancouver, formerly of Milton-Freewater, passed
away March 31, 2011, in Vancouver. Services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011, at
2 p.m. in the chapel of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater, OR 97862. Concluding services and interment to follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the M-F Little League Youth Baseball & Softball through the funeral home.
Don was born April 6, 1931, in Milton. He was the son of Alfred and Frances White Weis. He attended local schools and graduated from McLoughlin Union High School. While in high school he was the president of the senior class and was very involved in sports. He held the state record for the discus throw for almost 30 years. He later attended Pacific College on a football scholarship.
He married Adeline "Addie" Marie Parks in Milton-Freewater. Don worked for the city of Milton-Freewater from 1956-66. Then worked for
SAIF from 1968-76 teaching and developing new safety techniques. From 1977-80 they lived in Hermiston, where he worked for Umatilla Electric Co-Op and later for Ruralite Services, which was based in Forest
Grove, Ore., and retired in 1991.
He loved fishing, arrowhead hunting, rock hunting and turning rough rock into beautiful jewelry and he also grew to love to play golf. He will be missed by his family and friends.
He is survied by his wife, Addie of Vancouver; three sons, Jerry Weis of Vancouver, Terry Weis of Portland and Barry Weis of Milton-Freewater; daughter, Gina Joye of Salem; and his 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents; and a sister who died shortly after birth, Deloris Weis.
