WALLA WALLA -- A Whitman College religion professor recently presented her work near and far.
Josie Hendrickson, assistant professor of religion, presented a project on Islamic legal thought in 14th-century Granada to the religion department of Reed College in mid-March. She also presented, as one of 20 scholars from North America, Europe and North Africa, at Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales in Madrid, Spain, later in the month.
The conference topic was "The Legal Status of Religious Minorities in the Muslim West in the Middle Ages," and the paper she presented explored late 15th-century Islamic legal rulings on Muslims living under Christian rule in Spain and North Africa.
