POMEROY - Dayton and Pomeroy split a pair of nonleague baseball games Wednesday.
Pomeroy picked up the first game, 15-14, off seven Bulldog errors, while Dayton won the nightcap, 11-2.
"We left a lot of big runs on base in the first game," said Dayton coach Sal Benavides.
Dayton grabbed a lead after the top of the sixth at 10-9, but was unable to hold it. A couple of dropped fly balls also proved costly, Benavides said.
"Those should've been caught to win us the game," he said of the errors.
In the nightcap, Dayton answered one Pomeroy run i the first with three of their own in the second and never looked back.
"The second game was a total team effort," Benavides said. "We started hitting pretty well late in the first and that continued into the second. We had timely hits for everyone."
Action on the mound was also solid. Lowden Smith had 13 strikeouts on the day for the Bulldogs, while Colton Bickelhaupt notched nine.
"Overall, our pitching was really great," Benavides said.
It was the errors in game one that prevented a sweep, he said. Inclement weather kept the Bulldogs off the field for two weeks leading up to Wednesday's games.
The Bulldogs travel to another nonleague game Saturday at Colton.
