MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi's boys and girls picked up tennis victories over Helix Thursday night.
The Pioneer girls won 3-2 and the boys won 3-0.
"It's always great playing Helix because their players will play and play," said Mac-Hi coach Michelle Snyder. "It's also nice to play people who exhibit such great sportsmanship."
Mac-Hi girls Kirysa Koch, Vivian Diaz and Courtney Koch all topped their Grizzlies opponents in singles play. First-year Pioneer player Kaylee Davis marked the only singles loss on the day for the Pioneers.
"Kaylee is a promising tennis player with tremendous athletic ability and I'm excited to see her mature as a player this season and in future seasons," Snyder said.
The doubles duo of Kassidy Harris and Harley Morris also fell to Helix.
"Kassidy and Harley are also first-year players ... who are making great strides on the tennis court," Snyder said. "Doubles is a tough game and it takes practice to learn how to move on the court with each other. They are doing a really great job with their game and continue to improve every week."
The Pioneer boys swept through the Grizzlies.
Juan Diaz topped his Helix opponent 8-4, and Brayden Harwood defeated Willie Wood, 8-2.
Diaz is a sophomore.
"I really appreciate his dedication to persevere and his continued court time with the upper-level players that has led to his improvement since last year," Snyder said. "Juan will be a leader of the boys' team next year."
In boys doubles, Taylor Brown and Lawrence Timmons also topped Fordice and Wood.
