Barton leads Whitman men's golfers to second in Kennewick


KENNEWICK - Brian Barton shot a 3-over par 75 and led the Whitman College men's golf team to a second-place finish at Saturday's Whitman Invitational at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick.

Pacific's Max Bonk carded a 73, the day's low score, but the Whitworth men's team parlayed its superior depth into a first-place finish.

Whitworth posted a 304 team score for its top four golfers. Whitman was second at 318 with Pacific finishing third at 334.

Christian Boudreau and Cameron Whittle both shot 75 to pace the Pirates. Teammates Jesse Salzwedel and Ryan Young added matching 77s.

Jonathan Standen also broke 80 for Whitman, shooting a 79.

John Abercrombie and Andrew Welch shot 81 and 83, respectively, to round out the Missionary team score.

Also playing for Whitman were Peter Clark 84, Geoff Burks 86 and Drew Raher 89.

The NWC Men's Golf Championship, a 36-hole tournament, is slated for Canyon Lakes on April 22-23.
