A new statewide education and awareness campaign launches today to reach families of young children.

The "Love. Talk. Play" campaign targets parents with children ages 3 and younger and kicks off this week as part of the National Week of the Young Child.

The campaign strives to reassure parents of their role as their children's first and most important teacher, by reinforcing the need for love, talking and playing with their children.

Thrive by Five Washington and the state's Department of Early Learning and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction are key sponsors of the campaign, which launches with activities throughout communities in the state. Ten early learning coalitions, including the Walla Walla Valley Early Learning Coalition, are supporting campaign efforts by reaching families.

Washington state is home to about 348,000 children 3 years old and younger, according to a news release. More information is available online at www.lovetalkplay.org.
