Claire E. Wagoner, age 90, of 816 Fern Ave., passed away at Odd Fellows Home on April 7, 2011. At the request of the deceased, cremation will follow and there will be no service. Memorials may be made to Walla Walla Humane Society or any cause of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Wagoner was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Providence, R.I., to Adolph and Frances Zambrano. She graduated from high school and attended business college in Rhode Island. Claire worked for the government in Washington D.C. during World War II where she met Merle D. Wagoner. They were married on Dec. 12, 1945, in Cam Lejeune Marine base in North Carolina. After her husband's discharge from the Marine Corps
they moved their home to Walla Walla While Claire's children were in grade school she became very active
in PTA and also worked Bluebirds group and Campfire girls. She volunteered in the Walla Walla School District and helped children in remedial reading. Later Claire volunteered for about 10 years in the Republican Party and was secretary of the Central Republican Committee. She became membership chairperson for the Republican Women. Claire was later employed by the Walla Walla School District. Upon retirement she volunteered as treasurer of the school's Retirees Association for three years. Claire was an ardent animal lover and did everything she could help animals.
Survivors include her husband at home, Merle "Red" Wagoner; a son, Michael of Nordman, Idaho; and two grandchildren, Sadie Wagoner and Jason Long; as well as beloved nieces and nephews who were very
special to her. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Gabrielsen.
