TEKOA - Pomeroy's boys golf team placed first at a four-team match at the Tekoa Golf Club Monday.

The Pirates had a team score of 232 on the nine-hole, par-35 course. Riley Bott led the contingency with a 44, while teammates Joel Meyers, Austin Starin, Tanner Fieder and Tyson Fieder all carded 47s.

"It was very windy," said Pomeroy coach Jim Green. "It was quite an adventurous day. ... We started with hail, snow and rain, and then the winds came. The course greens had just been mowed Friday and it was a little tough. The conditions made it tough ... to keep in the 40s in those conditions, I was extremely pleased."

Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia's Casey Brown was the medalist with a 43.

Asotin's team was second with a 249, St. John-Endicott third with a 304 and T-0-R was fourth with a 339.

Green was especially pleased with Bott's low card.

"As a freshman who's never played the course, he showed great signs of consistency," Green said.

The Pirates play their first 18-hole course on Thursday at Clarkston's Quail Ridge.

"That will be a good challenge for us," Green said.
