Delbert Brown
Dec. 23, 1931 - April 10, 2011

Delbert G. Brown, age 79, with his loving family around him passed away quietly April 10, 2011, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder St., Walla Walla, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15. The family asks that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Christian Aid Center through Herring Groceclose Funeral Home. There will be private interment at a later time.

Delbert was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Minot, N.D., to Frank and Winifred Jones Brown. He attended schools in Minot. He served in the Navy Reserve at the Great Lake Station for three years. He remained in North Dakota until 1962 when he moved his family to the Pacific Northwest.

Delbert worked for Safeway for nearly 30 years and was dearly missed by many when he left the company. He purchased a milk distributorship in Ephrata, Wash., and operated it for 12 years before moving back to the Walla Walla Valley in 1974. In 1988, Delbert married Merly Weaver and they have resided in Walla Walla ever since. Together, they founded Brown's Doll and Bear Boutique in 1989, which later merged with The Briar Patch. Most recently, they traveled all over the west to doll and bear shows. They also looked forward to going to Dayton to the Village Shoppes to man the store every week.

He has been a member of the Lions Club and the Elks Club of Milton Freewater. He enjoyed fishing when he was able, word puzzles and liked to do scratch tickets. He dearly loved to hunt in his younger years and knew the Blue Mountains well. Del and Merly enjoyed going to the casino to have lunch and make their usual contribution. Delbert overcame many obstacles in his life but always had a smile on his face, a kind word and had a positive attitude. He greatly enjoyed spending time with the family.

Del is survived by Merly at home; two sons, Don and wife Belinda Brown of Meridian, Idaho; Kevin and wife Dena Weaver of Walla Walla; three daughters, Trish and husband Carl Lewis of Glendale, Ariz., Paula and husband Rob Robertson of Chico, Calif., Tami and husband Bill Stapleton of Walla Walla; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His parents; a brother, Bob Brown; sister, Doris Carlson; great-granddaughter, Brooke Lewis; and wife of 32 years, Wilma, have preceded him in death.
