POMEROY - Pomeroy dropped its Southeast 1B baseball opening twin bill in front of a hometown crowd Tuesday night.
The Pirates lost two games to Colton, 11-6 and 12-7.
"Both the games were kind of strange," said Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer. "It wasn't like either team hit the ball really hard. I guess their pitchers outpitched us."
Colton took an early 5-0 lead at the top of the fourth in the first game before the Pirates made it on the board. Six late runs by Pomeroy weren't enough in the effort.
In game two, Pomeroy took a 7-6 lead after two complete innings, and held it through the sixth.
But the Pirates couldn't get the win.
"We got the lead and held it for quite a while," Boyer said. "Then it just kind of slipped away in the last couple of innings."
Colton rallied for six late runs and the win.
"We had seven errors in the second game and didn't hit the ball that well," Boyer said.
Now 0-2 in league action, the Pirates host St. John-Endicott this Saturday.
