Walter Beryl Rayborn, Walla Walla, formerly of Milton-Freewater and Weston, passed away April 6, 2011, at his home at the age of 83 years. A celebration of life will be Sunday, April 17, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the club house at Golden West Estates. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862. Private inurnment will be in the Weston Cemetery, Weston, Ore.
Mr. Rayborn was born May 29, 1927, in Pendleton, the son of Walter L. and Thelma L. McCorkell Rayborn. He was raised on Weston Mountain and attended Weston Mountain Grade School and then Weston High School. He joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and was discharged in November 1946. In November 1946 he married Kathleen Johnston and they had three children. The couple were later divorced. On Nov. 16, 1959, he married Cleo LaMunyon in Lewiston, Ida. Mr. Rayborn farmed in the Weston-Athena area until his retirement in 1989. The couple moved to the Milton-Freewater area in 1999 and to Walla Walla in 2010. He enjoyed painting, golf, boating and hunting. Mr. Rayborn was a member of the Athena Christian Church, American Legion and the Oregon Good Sams Club.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo Rayborn at the home; a son, Ronald Rayborn of Portland; two daughters, Debra Zacker of Spokane, Valerie Ireland of Tri-Cities; two step-sons, Kieth LaMunyon of San Antonio, Texas, and Kemp LaMunyon of Walla Walla; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
