Blue Mountain Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will host a Sweetie Pie Social Sunday at the Plaza Theater in Waitsburg, said Darlene Filla, returning chorus director.
For just $5 per person, attendees can enjoy a slice of pie and a women's barbershop performance by Blueprint quartet and Sweet Adelines members. Tickets will be available at the door, which will open at 1:15 p.m.
Darlene said their first public performance as Blue Mountain Chorus was in 1974 at the Plaza Theater. Several years ago, chorus member Marilyn Johnson and husband Robbie purchased the theater.
"They renovated the upper floor into a living space, created a charming gift shop -- Etceteras -- in the foyer area and began extensive restoration of the theater interior. The 'Sweetie Pie Social' attendees will marvel at the very high ceiling and the work that is being done by Marilyn, on a very tall ladder," Darlene remarked via email.
Andi Flores, who served as chorus director for the past few years, has resigned her position to beginning a program of study toward national certification to enhance her teaching credentials, Darlene said.
So Darlene once again will pick up the director's baton. "I welcome the return of former members as well as women who are interested in singing a cappella," she said.
The group on April 18 will begin new music for the October 14-15 show to be held at the Walla Walla Community College Performing Arts Center. Call 520-0675 or 525-9041 for more information.
