WALLA WALLA -- A new trial date has been scheduled for a local man accused of possessing child pornography at his home.

Larry R. Mackler, 57, of 1826 Melrose St., is set for trial in Superior Court on June 20. The initial date was March 22.

Mackler is charged with three counts of first-degree and three counts of second-degree possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The charges stem from a tip Walla Walla police received that led to a search of Mackler's residence Oct. 19.

Officials allegedly confiscated a computer, several floppy disks and printed images of young nude girls, some of whom were being raped.

In a statement to police Dec. 15, Mackler admitted possessing images of child pornography on the electronic devices and printing the pictures, but denied trading or selling them, or taking any such pictures, according to a police report filed in court.

He was arrested that day, but released from the County Jail the following day pending further court proceedings.

The police report says that Mackler previously had been warned by the FBI -- which had older evidence -- not to download or view child pornography over the Internet.
