SEATTLE - The University of Washington softball field looked like home to Walla Walla this week.
Wa-Hi's softball team played two nonleague games with west side opponents, topping Holy Names 7-1 on Friday and South Kitsap 4-0 on Saturday.
"It was great," said Blue Devils coach Jerry Humphreys of the two-day softball experience. "The UW stadium is an incredible place to play and we felt privileged to go in and play on their field."
Wa-Hi's Alyson Ambler pitched the one-run win over Holy Names on Friday. She allowed them just seven hits.
Hope Klicker pitched a shutout against South Kitsap on Saturday.
"We played two high-quality teams," Humphreys said. "There was good pitching, great defense and good hitters. Coming out of that with two wins was a bonus. The kids hit well and our pitchers pitched well. ... It was definitely worth the trip over."
Wa-Hi's game with Holy Names was selected a Seattle Times softball game of the week, with reporters covering the game and video on local TV channels.
Wa-Hi played South Kitsap as part of the Washington High School Fastpitch Festival, with eight teams playing four games. The Blue Devils got the chance to watch some of the other games, in between their own events.
"It was definitely fun," Humphreys said. "It's a long ways to come for a couple of games, but where we got to play, and the weather cooperating, and the kids playing well, it was fun."
The Blue Devils are 9-0 on the season. They return to league play with doubleheaders at Moses Lake on Tuesday and at Richland Friday.
