Dayton softball team sweeps DeSales

WALLA WALLA - Dayton got what it needed when it needed in Southeast 2B girls softball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs answered every Irish attack in the opener to pull out a 7-4 win.

Dayton scored four times over the first three innings of the nightcap and made that stand up for a 4-2 win to complete the sweep.

Dayton, with a two-run second, grabbed the early lead in the opener, but the Irish tied it at 2-2 after three. The Bulldogs had the answer with a two-run fifth to grab the lead for good.

Kayla Turner went the distance in the circle for the Bulldogs and limited the Irish to four hits. Jessica Tate ripped three hits for Dayton and Turner added two in the Bulldog win.

Ashlyn Lyons had two hits for DeSales and Stephanie Ferrel and Megan Hamada collected the other Irish safeties.

Dayton took a 4-2 lead after three in the nightcap, and Samantha Harting and Lyons took over. Both hurlers matched goose eggs the rest of the way, but Harding had to pitch out of a seventh-inning jam to nail down the win.

Turner's two hits paced the Bulldog seven-hit attack. Lyons and Ferrel each had two hits for the Irish.

DeSales drops to 0-2 in league and entertains Touchet in a non-league game at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
