TOUCHET - A drive-by shooting was reported early Saturday morning west of Touchet.
According to a Sheriff's Office report, Jose Antonio Ruiz Aguirre, 49, of Milton-Freewater, was on the side of the road at around 2 a.m. Saturday near mile post 313 on U.S. Highway 12 when he was shot.
He was traveling with three other friends, when they pulled over so Aguirre could urinate on the side of the road.
Shortly after, several gunshots were heard and Aguirre was struck in the left thigh by a single bullet while running toward the vehicle.
One of Aguirre's friends used a belt as a tourniquet, then they proceeded to drive him to the hospital but pulled over at the Touchet Mercantile when Aguirre became dizzy, according to the report.
Aguirre was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
The friends reported a white vehicle driving from the scene after the gunshots were heard.
The group also said there had been no altercations with other individuals and had no idea why Aguirre had been shot.
