COLTON - Touchet played its first Southeast 1B baseball game of the season Monday, falling 7-3 to Colton while being interrupted by a snowstorm.
The snow prevented the nightcap from being finished.
"We stopped several times with a snow blizzard coming through," Indians coach Wayne Dickey said of the opener. "You couldn't see with it coming down. We'd let it blow over, and we were able to get the first one in.
"We started the second game, but you could see it really coming towards us," he said. "We got our at bat in the top of the first, and it hit. You could tell it wasn't going to let up. It was an inch, and inch-and-a-half (in depth), when we left."
In the game they did play, Nate Ortiz took the mound for Touchet and had the Indians with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning.
"Nate pitched well," Dickey said. "In the conditions, it was tough to throw in and his pitch count was getting up there."
Colton tied it up in the bottom of the fourth inning, and took advantage of a Touchet error and walk to set up a two-RBI double that put the Wildcats up 3-1. That run got Ortiz's pitch-count to where he was relieved by Jose Martinez, who got the Indians out of the inning.
Touchet got RBI singles from Joey Weber in the sixth inning to pull within 3-2, but Colton then had a walk, single, double, and another single and double for four runs.
"Up to that point, we had a really good ballgame," Dickey said. "We're a pretty young team, and I was happy with how they played, for the most part."
Weber had another RBI single in the top of the seventh to end scoring at 7-3.
Touchet, now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in SE1B play, has a single game at DeSales at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The game was originally slated to be played today.
