RICHLAND - Wa-Hi fell to Richland in Big Nine boys tennis action Tuesday.
The Blue Devils lost, 5-2, in their first team loss of the season. They're 4-1 on the year in Big Nine play.
"Richland showed its team strength and depth today," said Wa-Hi coach Ted Cummings.
Richland also won last weekend's 16-team Tri-Cities Invitational.
Richland's top three singles players - Travis Zuroske, Simean Yang and Patrick Kinder - topped Wa-Hi's Cameron Davis, Kevin Leier and Blake Rowley.
"Their top three guns were pretty dominant in our dual match," Cummings said.
Wa-Hi's Ruben Kuznetsov stopped the singles bleed with a straight-set win over Nikhil Malhoa.
Wa-Hi picked up its other win in doubles, when No. 2 team James Tupper-Bridges and Drew Swenson topped Taylor Armstrong and Brett Myer 6-4, 6-4.
"They showed a great deal of ‘skill and will' in the win," Cummings said of the pair.
Swenson and Armstrong competed against each other in mixed doubles in the Tri-Cities Invitational last weekend. Armstrong and his partner won that round.
"This time, Drew came out on top with the aggressive assistance of James (Tupper-Bridges), We spent a lot of time in practice on doubles drills, which can't hurt the singles specialists, either."
The Blue Devils hope to bounce back from their first loss of the dual match season with a Big Nine win at Kennewick against the Lions and Southridge on Saturday.
