PASCO - Pomeroy dropped a Southeast 1B baseball doubleheader to Tri-Cities Prep here Tuesday, losing two five-inning games via the mercy rule.

The Pirates lost the first game, 10-0, and the second, 13-0, to fall to 2-9 in league play.

Trevor Spets pitched the complete first game for the Jaguars.

"He's a good pitcher, but he's really slow," said Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer. "So our timing was completely off. He was very consistent, he had great control and he threw ball well. But we couldn't do anything with him."

The Pirates also gave up eight errors in the game and allowed the Jaguars four unearned runs. Pomeroy didn't have any hits off Spets.

The Pirates opened game two better, sitting down the first three Jaguars at the plate, but they couldn't maintain it.

"We weren't getting hits and we had a couple of errors, and they were able to score some runs on us," Boyer said. "We just didn't play well."

Pomeroy is missing shortstop Ryan Smith, who's been gone for the last six games with an illness.

Smith, Boyer said, is a spark on the team.

"We should still be able to pick up the slack, but he's one of those kids where it doesn't matter what the situation is, he just believes he can always overcome it," he said. "He's the type of kid that motivates all the other kids."

The Pirates were 3-2 before Smith's absence.

"Since then, we've just fallen off in our fielding and hitting," Boyer said. "It's just one of those things. We haven't been able to get our feet back under us without him there. But we need to suck it up and stop making mistakes. Someone needs to step up and say we can still do this."

Pomeroy hosts Asotin's JV on Monday and play again in league at Garfield-Palouse on April 30.
