WALLA WALLA - Waitsburg-Prescott's boys and girls rode a slew of first-place finishes to win a District 9 2B track meet at Martin Field Wednesday.
Kristin Potter won the 100 meters in 13.50, the 200 in 28.12 and the 400 in 1:04.47, and Ronnie Hulce topped the 100-meter hurdles in 17.41, the 300 hurdles in 50.31 and the triple jump at 29 feet, 9.5 inches, to lead the W-P girls to the victory.
On the W-P boys side, Eshom Estes excelled in the field events, winning the shot put with a throw of 45-06, the discus at 137-10, and the javelin at 146-07.
Boys team scores were W-P 134, DeSales 83, Pomeroy 56, Walla Walla Valley Acadmey 39 and Dayton 26.
Girls team scores were W-P 102, DeSales 68, Pomeroy 66, Dayton 39 and WWVA 24.
"We did pretty standard for these little meets," W-P coach Jeff Bartlow said. "We had a few first-places.
"I was proud of the kids," he said. "It was a small meet and we came in with one goal (to win). We had a long stretch with a meet Saturday and Wednesday, so the kids are a bit worn out, but they did a good job.
"Kristin Potter had a great day, her 400 was huge," Bartlow said. "She got 1.5 seconds off her personal best. That puts her in a good spot for state.
"Ronnie Hulce was really tough in both hurdles. She's coming along nicely."
Other top finishers for the W-P girls were Isabela Benito in the 1600 in 6:31.81 and 3200 in 14:18.19, and Amanda Cook won the discus with a throw of 77-05.
"It was nice to see Isabela (Benito) get some wins in the distances," Bartlow said. "That's really positive for her, it's been a while. Amanda Cook had a 7-foot personal record in the discus to win. She was pretty thrilled. That's a big mark for her."
For the W-P boys, James Thompkins won the 100 meters in 11.66 and the 200 in 23.94; Seth Deal cruised to an 8-second win in the 800 in 2:07.87, and won the 1600 in 4:44.94; Kyle Fredricks was the lone finisher in the 110 hurdles in 22.43; Antonio Thompkins won the high jump at 5-08; and the 400 relay team of Billy Brown, Jared Morris, Antonio Thompkins and James Thompkins won in 46.50.
"Seth Deal ran the 800 and 1600 and we pulled him out of the 3200," Bartlow said. "It was a good workout for him.
James Thompkins had a 23-second 200, which is a huge personal record for him," he said. "He's sitting pretty at this point in the season. It's pretty sweet."
DeSales' Allison Wujek won the girls high jump at 5-0 and the long jump at 15-06, and Jessica Arnzen won the 800 in 2:43.22 and was lead runner on the 800 relay team that won in 1:59.39. Brigit Lyons, Jade Donnelly and Wujek rounded out that relay team.
Pomeroy's Kindsey Bott won the shot put with a throw of 31-06.25 and the javelin at 107-03, and Sara LaPape was the sole counting pole vaulter at 7 feet.
For the boys, DeSales' Nick Wales won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.16, and the long jump at 18-11, and the Irish 1600 relay team of Jeremiah Cox, Jean-Emile Leconte, Peter Vander Griend and Wales won in 3:47.03.
Pomeroy's Jose Cruz won the 400 in 57.81, and Pirates Jacob Moore and Kenny Carr tied with the highest pole vaults of the day at 10 feet even.
