YAKIMA - Walla Walla Community College fell to 9-5 with a doubleheader loss to Yakima Valley here Wednesday.
The NWAACC-East Region leading Yaks improved to 13-1 in league play with their 12th straight win, going 10-4 and 12-6 over the Warriors. They're No. 2 in the NWAACC.
"Sloppy defense was again costly, as we gave up too many unearned runs," said Warrior coach Dave Meliah. "The bottom line is, they (Yakima) executed and got some big two-out hits, and we didn't."
Jake Fife and Derek Welton both got the wins for the Warriors.
Fife went eight innings in the opener, allowing the Warriors eight hits, striking out five and walking three.
WWCC's Chance Kopacz knocked out a two-run home run in the fourth inning, the first time the Warriors made it to the board.
Alex Bonczyk had a two-run double in the eighth, closing out Warriors scoring.
In game two, Welton moved the Yaks to a 7-2 lead, allowing just four hits, before the Warriors rallied for four runs in the eighth, 7-6 Yakima.
Tyler Roberts and Mike Paulson had RBI singles in the eighth, while Kopacz had an RBI double.
The Yaks responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the stanza to move to a permanent lead at 12-6. Roeman Fields knocked home two with a triple, while Jose Sermo brought in one of his own with another three-bagger.
