Arthur Spoo

Arthur Willard "Bud" Spoo of Vancouver, Wash., passed away at Southwest Washington Medical Center. He was born in Corning, Calif., to Edward Henry Spoo and Hazel Mae (Templeton) Spoo, and grew up in Sisters, Ore. Arthur married Lilly Susanna Caviness of Canby, Ore., on Dec. 29, 1940, celebrating their 70th anniversary Dec. 29, 2010.

Arthur served in the Navy at Camp Farragut, Idaho, from August 1944 through March 1946. He co-founded Mitchell Pine Lumber Company of Mitchell, Ore., in 1940 with father, Ed, and brothers, Willis and Bob. Arthur, better know to his friends as "Bud," ran the production end of the milling operation along with the business office. Arthur graduated
from Walla Walla College in College Place in 1949 with a B.S. in business administration. Following graduation, he was hired as assistant treasurer for the Oregon Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Portland, where he stayed until the winter of 1952. In
February 1952, Arthur returned to Walla Walla College as vice president for finance. He served in this position until June 1964, when he took a position within the Trust Department of Loma Linda University, in Loma Linda, Calif. Arthur remained with the university in various areas of responsibility until his retirement.

Arthur is survived by wife, Lilly of Vancouver; daughters, Susanna Danielson of Vancouver and Cynthia and Curtis Wiggins of Lewiston, Idaho; granddaughters, Kimberly and Scott Atkin, Lake Oswego, Ore., Allison and Andre Krasich, Santa Barbara, Calif., Erin and Jay Sleeth, Happy Valley, Ore.; grandson, Jeremy and Edith Wiggins, Lewiston; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, Beverly and Harry Danielson, Diamond Head, Miss., Jeni Crane, Hanford, Calif.; nephews, Randy and Kathy Spoo, Clovis, Calif., Bill and Charlene Spoo, Gerlach, Nev., and Jim and Jean Spoo, Sparks, Nev. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Hazel; brothers, Willis and Bob; infant brother, Gerald; nephews, Ed Spoo, Rick Danielson and Chris Danielson.

Funeral services will be held at Sunnyside Seventh-day Adventist Church, 10501 S.E. Market St., Portland, OR 97216 (503-252-8080) on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to Beacon Christian School, 615 Stewart Ave., Lewiston, ID 83501 (208-743-8361)
