LA GRANDE - Mac-Hi slipped to 0-6 in Greater Oregon League play with a doubleheader loss to the home Tigers, 8-2 and 7-4, in Friday Greater Oregon League baseball action.
Carson Miller showed why he is "one of the top pitchers in the GOL," according to Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia, by registering 15 strikeouts in game one.
Despite a respectable pitching effort by Troy Kessler in the second game, the Pioneers were not able to secure a victory.
Mac-Hi led 2-1 early in the opener before allowing six runs in the bottom half of the second inning. It held a 3-2 edge in the nightcap before La Grande put up three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning.
The Pioneers committed six errors on the day - three in each game.
Offensively, Mac-Hi left the bases loaded four times in the second game.
"The errors are costly," Garcia said. "We need to figure out a way to eliminate that and figure out a way to put the ball in play and advance runners.
"We're playing well until we get the lead, then we seem to commit a few errors," Garcia said. "We have not been able to execute the plays when we need to. It's not because we're not capable, but we need to be able to take the lead and keep our focus level."
Mac-Hi opens the second round of league play when it hosts Baker City on Saturday.
